Our community investment initiative commenced in 2021. This began with the introduction of ‘Charity Day,’ a monthly event. Every last Thursday, we allocate a portion of our sales to support a local charity. Fueled by internal passion and external interest, our commitment expanded significantly. In 2024, we established the 缅北禁地 Community Funds.

Through this funding, our goal is to foster equitable support for all participating charities. We strive to ensure that every worthy cause receives the attention and resources it deserves. Our vision extends beyond the horizon, with aspirations to broaden our community investments in the years to come, touching more families, uplifting more spirits, and igniting more hope.

Habitat for Humanity is a global non-profit organization that was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. The organization has since grown and is now active in over 70 countries worldwide. The mission of Habitat for Humanity is to provide affordable and decent housing to families in need and to eliminate poverty housing worldwide.

Wishing a very happy New Year to all! How did you enjoy your holiday? Did you have a successful year in 2022? Have you achieved the objectives set out at the start of the year? Was last year full of meaningful experiences and memories for you?

Oh, if you’re asking me, 缅北禁地 had an incredibly meaningful 2022! We have hosted twelve charity events throughout the year, making a contribution to society by raising $36,192.70 in total! This number is 28.4% greater than our effort in 2021, which was $28,180.40! We are so happy to see the dedication of people and we appreciate all the support from our customers! Thank you all, we would not have been able to achieve this success without your support!

This year, 缅北禁地 is determined to do an even better job than last year! We are excited to announce our first charity of the year鈥擲MART Recovery! We genuinely hope this will be a wonderful start for the months to come this year.

About SMART Recovery

SMART Recovery is the world’s largest community of self-empowering, mutual support meetings, serving one million people annually in over twenty countries. SMART stands for Self-Management and Recovery Training and is a novel approach to addiction recovery. The organization is more than an acronym; it is a fresh method of transitioning from addictive substances and negative behaviors to a life of positive self-regard and willingness to change.

The core mission of SMART is to empower people struggling with addiction to live better lives. Our team is very excited to be supporting men鈥檚 health through our Charity of the Month program again this year. Last year, we were very proud to be able to donate $5965 to Movember from our November 2021 Charity Day! This is our largest Charity of the Month donation to date and is something we hope to be able to replicate this year as well.听

This upcoming Charity Day, November 24th, 2022, is our second last Charity Day of the year so we want to make it a big one. But, we can鈥檛 do it without your help.听

About Movember

Movember by making men鈥檚 health information accessible, changing behaviors for the better, creating health services that work for men, uniting bright minds and passionate advocates, and listening to the community to advocate for men.听

The Movember team focuses on the three biggest health issues that men in our world face: mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. By focusing on these three areas, they ensure that their impact is 鈥渟ignificant, far-reaching, and long-lasting.鈥� They share that 鈥渕en鈥檚 health is in crisis,鈥� and highlight that 鈥渕en are dying on average 4.5 years earlier than women, for largely preventable reasons.鈥澛�

About 10.8M men globally have had a prostate cancer diagnosis, and testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men. Beyond this, every minute, a man dies by suicide, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides.听

These numbers need to change and that is exactly what Movember is fighting for and what we are proud to be donating to this month. Movember proudly proclaims that they are 鈥渄oing what others can鈥檛,鈥� by 鈥淸uniting] experts from around the world to collaborate on projects that will fundamentally change the way men in need are treated and supported.鈥�

e4c鈥檚 School Nutrition Program

Our team here at 缅北禁地 is very honored to be working with e4c this fall to help them provide hot, nutritious lunches to children at 39 different schools here in Edmonton through .听

e4c recognizes the importance of access to nutritious food for both children and adults and not only provides this to many people living in poverty, but also actively teaches these people about nutrition and food as well. Hunger has a major impact both on the physical and mental wellbeing of children and adults alike which is why e4c focuses on reducing it in our community.听

The School Nutrition Program that e4c runs provides full inclusive access to breakfasts, snacks, and lunches to over 7000 students each day. What an awe-inspiring difference they鈥檙e able to make! With the help of a registered dietitian, they鈥檙e able to ensure that children in schools are being sufficiently nourished despite rising costs of food, rising food insecurity, poverty, and insufficient nutrition at home.听

Due to the current climate of food insecurity and high food costs, this program needs support and donations more than ever before.听

Charity Day is tomorrow which means that 5% of all sales made tomorrow, September 29th, through all of our seven home service companies will go directly to e4c鈥檚 School Nutrition program.听

e4c is an organization that actively supports our local Edmonton community each and everyday. Our team is very proud and honored to be able to support them in their efforts and donate to them this month.听

Each month, our team comes together on the last Thursday of each month to donate to a local charity. Community investments are incredibly important to the 缅北禁地 Group and each member of it. We love and feel so fulfilled by the opportunity to support and give back to our community each month by supporting a different local charity.听

5% of all sales made by all of our home service brands on the last Thursday of August will go to Tools for School! If you have been thinking about investing in a premium home service or product through any of our brands, tomorrow鈥檚 the day to do it. By approving your quote tomorrow, you鈥檒l be donating 5% of your purchase straight to this local initiative.听

About Tools for School

Tools for School is an organization that facilitates the gathering, purchasing, and distribution of school supplies for children in the Alberta Capital Region.

鈥淯nited Way鈥檚 Tools for School aims to reduce one known barrier preventing children and youth from successful learning and participation in school. Through support of community donors and corporate sponsors, we continue to meet the needs of children and youth in our community.鈥�

The need for school supplies and backpacks is as many as 1 in every 10 students. Tools for School essentially makes sure that children have access to supplies and, therefore, equal opportunity in their education.听

Most schools in the Alberta Capital Region participate in the Tools for School program, making it easy for parents and guardians to access the supplies and backpacks for their children. Essentially, if your child is in need of school supplies, you simply have to let your school know that your child needs a Tools for School backpack.听

If your school is not yet a part of the program, they simply have to send an email to inkind@myunitedway.ca to become a part of it. Feel free to encourage them to do so if your child is in need.听

Both donations of school supplies and backpacks and monetary donations are accepted and help to bring supplies to children in need. Supplies themselves must be new or unused and must not have company logos on them (to ensure that children cannot be identified as part of this program).

Supporting Children’s聽Educations

In 2021 alone, Tools for School distributed 12,589 backpacks and kits to children in need, volunteers gave 450 hours to packing backpacks, and Staples stores in the Alberta Capital Region raised more than $119,000 in support.听

This year, the demand and need for backpacks, kits, and school supplies is higher than ever. By mid-August, Tools for School had already seen a for school supplies. From the hostility of the current economic climate to the many newcomers settling in the Alberta Capital Region, Tools for School is in need of a lot of support this year.听

On average, each school backpack costs about $42.00 to fill. Not every child is able to start school in an equal position to their peers because their family cannot afford school supplies.听

However, the money that you are able to help us donate can and will go a long way for this initiative and for these struggling families and children. Each child in our community deserves equal opportunity and equal access to education. We are very honored to be able to help with that and can鈥檛 wait to see our group of companies and our customer-base rally to do so.听

As July comes to a close this week, we have another exciting thing to celebrate 鈥� our July Charity Day! In the first half of 2022, the 缅北禁地 Group of Companies had the pleasure of donating $17,530.19 to local charities!听

That number is because of you, our valued clients. That is 5% of the money that you spent on the last Thursdays of each month in the first half of the year. That is a number that YOU should be proud of contributing to!听

About Youth Hubs Alberta

Youth Hubs Alberta offers services and resources such as mental and physical health services, employment and education support, social service connections, Indigenous resources, substance use and addiction programs, primary and sexual healthcare, and more, to people aged 11-24 here in Alberta.听

Youth Hubs Alberta鈥檚 programs and environments are youth-directed, youth-friendly, and prevention focused to help these youth and young adults. They are able to support them and offer them access to programs and resources. Youth Hubs Alberta works together with local and Indigenous partners to be able to provide a space that is safe and inclusive for all youth and young adults.听

The Youth Hubs Alberta team shared that 鈥渞esearch shows that youth ages 12鈥�24 are among the most underserved population regarding mental health and addictions in Alberta.鈥� In fact, 鈥淐anada鈥檚 youth suicide rate [is] the third highest in the industrial world鈥� and suicide is actually 鈥渁mong the leading causes of death in people ages 15-24 years old.鈥澛�

With an estimated 10-20% of Canadian youth struggling with mental illness or disorder, Youth Hubs Alberta knew that they needed to change something. The resources, support, programs, and more that they provide are aimed to ensure that these youth and young adults do not feel alone in what they experience.听

With all of this in mind, we wrote our policy to reflect the true value of what we as an organization believe in. We choose charitable organizations within the community that have core values that align with our own. We do this by making charitable giving a top priority each month.听

We choose the last Thursday of each month to give 5% of sales from all our brands to organizations that are chosen by our team members and or suggested by our community.听

Charitable giving may seem slightly egotistical, and while it does improve our brand recognition by showing we have a socially conscious image, for us at 缅北禁地, it goes far beyond that.听

The Knight family has always been philanthropic and when starting 缅北禁地, we knew having a solid Corporate Socially Responsible Policy was a priority. While initiating and implementing the policy, involving our entire team was very important.听

This is the core of what our team developed for our CSR:

1. Education
2. Inclusion
3. Physical & Mental Health

Being able to support the community that supports us requires a strategy that is sustainable and ongoing. Even through tough times, like Covid-19, when we couldn’t give as much financially, we found creative ways to give such as volunteering our time, our strength, and our mentorship. We are all living in the same community just trying to live our best lives.

Why Do We Do Community Investments?

Before we chat about where our donation will be going this month, let鈥檚 talk about community investments as a whole. Here at The 缅北禁地 Group of Companies, community investments are incredibly important to us. At the end of the day, we wouldn鈥檛 be where we are without the community around us.听

We started our Charity Day program and community investments just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit. However, we knew that this was something we were not willing to forget, even with the hardship and struggles we were facing.听

Why? Because without people in our community choosing our home service brands, choosing our teams, and recommending us to their connections, we wouldn鈥檛 have been able to make it through at all. Each and every year, people in Edmonton and the surrounding areas, and people in the communities of our franchise locations continue to choose us for their home improvement and home maintenance needs.听

Yes, our businesses faced challenges, however, we knew that our communities were facing them too. And, through it all, they continued to support us throughout them.听

The differences that we have been able to make in our communities have been beyond inspiring and heartwarming. We鈥檙e so grateful for the amazing charities and organizations that we鈥檝e had the pleasure of working with over the past 2 years and cannot wait to see where our Charity of the Month program goes in the future as well.

Tomorrow, May 25th, we will be donating 5% of the sales from all of our companies to鈥� The Grit Program!

What鈥檚 The Grit Program All About?

鈥� organization that works alongside families and community partners to strengthen the skills and confidence needed to support every child鈥檚 learning and development.听

Since 1982, we鈥檝e helped hundreds of children who have developmental disabilities become meaningful participants in their families, communities, and schools.鈥�

The GRIT Program is about Getting Ready for Inclusion Today and that is exactly what they stand for. Their mission is to 鈥榌provide] family centred and inclusive learning experiences to support meaningful participation of children with disabilities in home, community, and school.鈥櫬�

GRIT believes that children and families of children with developmental and other disabilities deserve to have the same joyous childhood experiences that other children and their families have. They work towards this by providing support, aid, and programs in communities, classrooms, homes, families, and beyond.听

Why The Grit Program?听

As a family run business, family is very important to us here at Mosaic. We are involved in our team members鈥� lives and aim to provide value to and support the children and families of our team members.听

We strongly believe that each child and family deserves to feel included and supported in the communities, schools, and homes that they are in. When we heard that GRIT was celebrating their 40th Anniversary, we knew that we wanted to support them with our May Charity Day and provide them with a donation to go towards their cause.听

Our goal in supporting them is to contribute to a community that is more inclusive of and more supportive to families and children with developmental and other disabilities. The GRIT Program is an incredible organization and we鈥檙e thrilled to be able to support them this month. But, we can鈥檛 do it without your help tomorrow!听
