What is Canterbury Foundation?

Canterbury Foundation is a licensed supportive living facility and registered not-for-profit organization based in Edmonton, dedicated to providing safe and comfortable living arrangements for seniors in our community. As a Community of Transition, Canterbury聽 Foundation offers a range of retirement living options with a variety of healthcare services to support seniors at every stage of their journey.

The foundation’s continuum of care includes independent living, assisted living, and specialty care spaces, with evolving programming for residents learning to live with cognitive impairment, as well as specialized palliative care. Canterbury Foundation’s mission is to provide safety, comfort, independence, and connection to support meaningful lives for seniors.

Canterbury Foundation takes a holistic, person-centered approach to care, offering daily enrichment activities designed to support seniors’ physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. They have a team of dedicated professionals, including 24-hour nursing support, companion care, in-house spiritual and mental health support through chaplaincy, and a geriatric social worker. With their commitment to enhancing the lives of seniors, Canterbury Foundation is making a real difference in our community.

Our team is very excited to be supporting men鈥檚 health through our Charity of the Month program again this year. Last year, we were very proud to be able to donate $5965 to Movember from our November 2021 Charity Day! This is our largest Charity of the Month donation to date and is something we hope to be able to replicate this year as well.聽

This upcoming Charity Day, November 24th, 2022, is our second last Charity Day of the year so we want to make it a big one. But, we can鈥檛 do it without your help.聽

About Movember

Movember by making men鈥檚 health information accessible, changing behaviors for the better, creating health services that work for men, uniting bright minds and passionate advocates, and listening to the community to advocate for men.聽

The Movember team focuses on the three biggest health issues that men in our world face: mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. By focusing on these three areas, they ensure that their impact is 鈥渟ignificant, far-reaching, and long-lasting.鈥� They share that 鈥渕en鈥檚 health is in crisis,鈥� and highlight that 鈥渕en are dying on average 4.5 years earlier than women, for largely preventable reasons.鈥澛�

About 10.8M men globally have had a prostate cancer diagnosis, and testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men. Beyond this, every minute, a man dies by suicide, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides.聽

These numbers need to change and that is exactly what Movember is fighting for and what we are proud to be donating to this month. Movember proudly proclaims that they are 鈥渄oing what others can鈥檛,鈥� by 鈥淸uniting] experts from around the world to collaborate on projects that will fundamentally change the way men in need are treated and supported.鈥�

We are honored to have the opportunity to support men worldwide by fighting for more accessible, more effective men鈥檚 health initiatives.聽

As a team that is full of amazing men who fearlessly lead our team and advance our business, Movember is very close to our hearts. Our summer seasonal teams have been taking advantage of the great fall weather, providing as many high quality services to our clients as possible. We鈥檙e working against time at the moment and thankfully it has seemed to be on our side for the majority of the month! For our year-round and winter seasonal businesses, October and November will continue to ramp up. (Which we鈥檙e absolutely loving!)

As October is coming to a close, we鈥檙e very excited to announce that our October Charity of the Month is (DRIFCan)! 5% of the sales made by all of our home service companies on Charity Day (which is tomorrow!) will go directly to DRIFCan, supporting their cause.聽

About DRIFCan

DRIFCan describes their mission as the following:聽

“The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation Canada (DRIFCan) mission is to accelerate the cure for diabetes by directly funding world renowned diabetes researcher Dr. James Shapiro and his team at the University of Alberta. All funds raised stay right here in Edmonton. Our goal is to be a 90/10 foundation, where 90% of all funds raised go directly to cure based research. We are happy to report that in 2021 we were able to achieve this goal. Dr. Shapiro is well known for the , which is islet cell transplantation, and is now being done in 30 countries around the world and all those centers came to Edmonton to be trained by the team here. His latest research is now stem cell research, he is working on taking stem cells from your own blood and gene editing to become insulin producing cells. He is currently having success in mice and next steps in human trials.鈥�

The work that are doing at the University of Alberta is changing lives across the globe. Having the chance to support this incredible initiative and help people with type 1 diabetes to have a cure is very meaningful to our team here at Mosaic.
